In 2022, crisis-level infant formula shortages critically affected the food work of caregivers across North America. Caregivers turned to each other for support to find formula and feed their babies. Since the shortage, the cost of infant formula and food for breastfeeding caregivers has increased substantially, meaning many families struggle to make ends meet. The research team at the Fed Family Lab captured the stories of caregivers and the daily food work of feeding babies.
